When Data Was Everywhere but Insight Wasn’t
For one of India’s largest port and logistics operators, managing growth across 12 locations came with a hidden challenge - data fragmentation.
Every site maintained its own systems, cloud resources multiplied without consistent governance, and visibility into operations was limited. Reports took time, dashboards varied across teams, and cloud costs kept rising without a clear line of sight. The organization had invested heavily in AWS and GCP, but needed help turning that investment into actionable intelligence and sustainable efficiency.
Objective:
To consolidate cloud governance, create a scalable data catalog, and design analytics dashboards that provided real-time, actionable insights into port and logistics performance - all while optimizing cloud spend and improving security.
WhiteBlue’s Approach and Solution Design
WhiteBlue began with a discovery assessment using its C3 (Customer Centric Cloud) framework. The goal was to align cloud infrastructure, security, and analytics objectives under one operational model.
The team’s work unfolded in three key streams:
Securing and Optimizing Cloud Infrastructure
AWS usage patterns were analyzed to identify over-provisioned resources. Proven SOPs and security guardrails were introduced through WhiteBlue’s R2D (Ready to Deploy) model, ensuring optimal usage of compute and storage assets.
Cost optimization and right-sizing recommendations brought structure and predictability to cloud operations.
Standardizing and Documenting Data Assets
WhiteBlue’s Data Engineering CoE analyzed multiple business data streams and created standardized data models. Using Google Cloud Data Catalog, all data assets were tagged with both technical and business metadata, making information easier to search, understand, and reuse.
Delivering Intelligent, Mobile-First Dashboards
The Analytics CoE built Power BI dashboards tailored to business and operational users.
Custom visual maps plotted live locations of rakes and trucks, improving visibility into goods movement. Trend charts supported forecasting, while mobile-ready dashboards gave leaders and field teams access to real-time insights.
Cloud & Analytics Implementation Story
WhiteBlue rolled out the transformation in phases - starting with a controlled pilot focused on one port cluster. Once stability and accuracy were validated, the framework was scaled to other locations.
The combination of cloud governance, metadata standardization, and analytics delivery created a self-sustaining data ecosystem that continues to evolve with the client’s expanding operations.
Results
Secured, stable cloud infrastructure with predictable cost management
Single metadata catalog for all business data
Improved forecasting and operational decision-making
Consistent mobile dashboards for leadership and on-ground teams
